4 Questions: An Inside Look at Giving Back with the You Deserve It Foundation
Giving back is a big part of what makes Perfectly Posh so posh, and the reason why we created the You Deserve It Foundation. Thanks to the ongoing support of all our customers, Perfectly Posh and the You Deserve It Foundation are able to empower people around the world who need it most. Today we’re spotlighting Melissa Attlee, a Perfectly Posh Influencer who finds time each month to support the You Deserve It Foundation.
Melissa Attlee on Why She Supports the You Deserve It Foundation
Tell us a little about yourself and how you got started with Perfectly Posh.
I was born and raised in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. I’m a Marine Corps veteran, four years happily married, and my husband and I have four kids ages 3–19. One of my best friends started selling Posh and introduced me to the products; we were talking one night about how much fun she was having with her business and it got me thinking. I had/have a full-time job that I love and didn’t necessarily need a second source of income; however, I saw a different kind of opportunity with Posh. My youngest child was getting to the age where she didn’t need 24/7 attention from me, and my seven year old Bella, who was still trying to cope with no longer being the baby, needed more of my attention. I wanted to do something that was just for me and Bella, so BePosh BeBella was born! We’ve had so much fun with it, making videos, doing Facebook lives, and snapping pictures to share on social media. Bella also loves helping make samples to send out.
What does the You Deserve It Foundation mean to you and what makes it important?
The You Deserve It Foundation (YDI) is so unique in that the initiatives change and shift to target various areas and people in need, while simultaneously helping the people who are the ACTUAL source of Posh ingredients! The Shea Sisterhood mission focuses on the region of Ghana where shea butter is sourced for use in so many great Posh products, and the efforts in Guatemala are benefiting the community surrounding where the palm oil is sourced. I absolutely love this about YDI!
What makes you excited about the future of YDI, or what projects would you like to see happen?
As for the future of YDI, I’m most excited to watch it grow! It’s still a relatively new foundation and there’s so much more that can be done. The opportunities are limitless so long as the support from donors continue. It feels amazing to be a part of the process in the early stages. I’d love to see women’s empowerment missions in areas like Morocco or an initiative geared towards saving the bees.
What inspired your donation to YDI?
The inspiration behind my donations to YDI began with the YDI philosophy that all women from all walks of life deserve to be pampered… deserve a mental-health minute to feel relaxed. This hits close to home for me. When I got started with Posh it was to spend more time with my daughter; it ended up being an opportunity for me to spend more time with myself too! I’d spent years putting everyone else’s needs above my own, and when I began my Posh journey I started a nightly and weekly pampering ritual that made SUCH a difference to my mental health in the long run. THAT is what I feel every woman (or every human, really) deserves. It’s not a luxury that everyone can afford though, so the You Deserve It Foundation helps make it possible for those who can’t… and I find that incredibly special and amazing.
