Summer is the perfect time to play with highlighter. Whether you’re headed to a festival, poolside bbq, graduation party, or just cocktail night with the girls, highlighter is a fun and versatile way to show off your skin because it uses reflective light to disguise dull skin while helping you glow!

Using our 3 liquid highlighters in pearl, pink, and purple, you can curate the perfect look for any occasion, from everyday to a special night out. Here’s what you’ll need:

Step 1:

Put some moisturizer on your hand (foundation works too if you want more coverage), add a drop of Pinking Out Loud, and mix with your fingertips. Then apply to face, neck, chest, collarbone—anywhere you want a little warm, sun-kissed sheen. Want more glow? We thought so! Moving on...

Step 2:

Sparingly apply a few drops of Working Pearl to the high points of your face where light naturally hits, like cheekbones, your forehead between your brows, your cupid’s bow, and the inner corners of your eyes. Blend well using fingertips or a damp makeup sponge (these highlighters dry quickly).

Pro tip: If you’re using any concealer or bronzer, do it before applying Working Pearl.

Step 3:

Get ready to go purple! It’s the hottest highlighter hue right now and easier to wear than you think. First, check your jewelry box…we’re about to determine if your skin has warm undertones or cool. There are lots of ways to do this, but the easiest is by looking at your bangles. If you rock mostly silver jewelry, you probably have cool undertones. See a lot of gold and rose gold? You’re warm.

Cool Tones: Cool compliments cool (and helps neutralize any sallow, yellow tones) making purple the highlighter of your dreams! Blend Maiden Voyage over the tops of your cheekbones and up toward your hairline.

Warm Tones: The trick to pulling off purple for your skin tone is by warming it up a notch. Apply a few drops of Pinking Out Loud to the tops of your cheekbones and up toward your hairline, then top with Maiden Voyage and blend for a hue customized just for you.

Pro tip: You can also use pink and purple highlighters to show off your neck, chest, and shoulders in a flirty summer top or off-the-shoulder sundress.

Step 4:

Forget everything you just learned! Highlighters are all about having fun. While you can use this guide as a go-to tool, be your own mixologist and experiment to find your own style. If you go a little overboard, you can always tone it down with a dab of foundation or powder.
